Plymouth Guide:
Plymouth is located close to the coast of Devon and is only a couple of hundred miles from South West London. It is situated between the mouths of two rivers. The city is well connected with its own airport, railway station, and also operates a ferry service.
Things to do and see in Plymouth –
Historical architecture of the city is best depicted by the Fort at Crownhill, which is a manifestation of original designs. It was taken over by the army for over a century which is why it was next to impossible to make too many changes to the building. However, it was opened to the public in 1995 and its many tunnels and passageways can be explored. Various family based events are organised from time to time, allowing for an entire day of activities and adventure.
An important thing to do is take advantage of the lush coast Plymouth is located by, and it can be appreciated greatly through a boat cruise, which is not only a little water-based adventure but also relaxing for the mind. There is much to see including the naval air base, and is something all age groups will love. Another fortress to visit for its extravagance is the Royal Citadel, a 17th century fortress, built for the purposes of protecting Plymouth’s harbour. It is located in The Hoe. Not only is the architecture worth a tour, but the gardens surrounding it are equally mesmerising. An exciting fact is that it is constructed out of local limestone.
Another trip back in time is made essential by the wonders of the Plymouth Dome, which consists of a number of galleries that delve into the mysteries of the city itself. Children will particularly enjoy the virtual tours in the foyer, and mock-ups of dark streets from Elizabethan times and waxwork figures. Adults can enjoy films made about various voyages shown in a small cinema. To sum it up, there is something for the old, young, and the in between to enjoy.
Being the largest city in Devon, and given its rich historical background and importance as a coastal city, Plymouth is definitely an experience you are unlikely to forget.
